It is important to stress that parents are the keystone of MALI YETU. MALI YETU could not exist were it not for parental involvement. When parents and teachers work in support of one another, the child can truly blossom and grow because he/she does not receive mixed messages. MALI YETU can only grow into a responsive and responsible community institution by working together with the people it serves.
Paying tuition alone does not end parent responsibilities toward MALI YETU, nor does teaching the child end the responsibilities of the staff. We must reach across the gap between school and home and build a solid bridge of support for our children. This is essential if we are to build a positive educational alternative for ourselves and our children.
MALI YETU is committed to providing an alternative educational experience for its members and their children. Through its various programs MALI YETU strives:
to enhance self awareness by enlarging the knowledge base about ourselves here in America and elsewhere.
Thus, we require our parents to participate in the life and development of MALI YETU. This can be done on various levels, and can be initiated by each parent on the level that is most comfortable; because we understand that just as the children have individual differences and talents, so do adults. We want our parents to join in where they feel the best fit.
The governing body of MALI YETU is composed of (1) all parents whose children are enrolled in a MALI YETU program, and (2) all teachers. Any parent or teacher is eligible to hold an office and be part of the executive committee.
